Programme: The Technology and Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP)
 
Organisation: Funded by the Department of Trade and Industry and managed by the National Research Fund
 

Type of Support
  • Funding of Training between a research institution and a player in industry.
 

Programme Description

In the programme, R200 000 for one South African Student (R85 000 in the case of non South African students) who are in their 4th year – or higher of their studies for a maximum period of three years in a funding cycle is offered.
 

Target Market

Academic researchers or students at postgraduate level in University or Science Engineering and Technology Institution (SETI), working in industrial laboratories,
Industrial researchers and technology managers who are temporarily seconded to a Higher Education Institution (HEI) to conduct research of direct relevance to the industry
 

Application Conditions

The project must lead to a prototype (product, process, technique or methodology) that will benefit the industry partner.
The industry partner must clearly demonstrate their commitment by the investment they make.
An agreement must be in place of the ownership and exploitation of Intellectual Property arising from the project between the SETI and the industry partner before commencement of the project.
 If the industrial partner is foreign, there must be an indication of how South Africa stands to benefit from the technology outcomes resulting from the collaboration.
