Agricultural Programmes
Organisation: TechnoServe in partnership with The Jobs Fund, Standard Bank, Massmart Walmart, JP Morgan, The Ford Foundation, ABSA, KwaZulu Natal Department of Agriculture and Environment (KZNDAE), and Citibank.

Programme Description
Various programmes are carried out in different parts of the country in collaboration with the partners, and they include:
· The Direct Farm programme aiming to put locally produced smallholder farmers’ produce on shelves of Massmart;
· Market, pack house, distribution centre, to support emerging farmers;
· Technical programmes to support farmers to improve yields;
· Facilitation of access to finance;
· Funding and support from the Ford Foundation for farmers in the Badplaas area in Mpumalanga;
· The Bojanala Agribusiness Accelerator programme with grant funding from ABSA; and
· The Mutale Agribusiness Development Initiative (MADI), funded by Standard Bank are among the programmes.
Target Market
Smallholder farmers from Limpopo, KwaZulu Natal, Mpumalanga, The Eastern Cape and The North West Province.

Success Stories
i. Mnothophansi Cooperative in the KwaZulu Natal area consists of 15 members, each with an allocated piece of land that ranges from 4 to 22 hectares, producing a variety of crops. They are benefiting through the funding of inputs (Massmart), horticulture mentorship, market facilitation and ongoing business development services. They have created jobs in the area.
ii. Shimein Seenyane began a farming cooperative in Ikageng, Rustenberg, and has turned a former illegal dumpsite into a profitable vegetable production area employing 6 individuals. This is due to the support received including funding for fixing a borehole from ABSA, access to markets and technical advice.
iii. Boesman Matabula, an Elukwatini farmer sees the benefits of the programmes. He now has a market for his produce and can now take better care of his family.
