Success Stories
i. The development and commercialisation of Lebone Coffin by Cebisa Isizwe Close Corporation received support from the programme. The coffin is designed in a unique space saving pyramid shape and it contains a material that changes colour a few hours after a corpse has been placed in it. This colour change serves as a deterrent to coffin theft.
ii. The Apnoea Monitor by Infantrust Parenting Solutions (Pty) Limited received support from the programme. This is a portable pressure sensitive monitor that alerts care givers if a baby ceases breathing for an overly long period during sleep (20 seconds).
iii. Nguni Juice CC, founded by Mr Norman Mpedi enjoyed success in the commercialisation of value-added products from indigenous fruits and plants. They developed the Umviyo Cider and Liquor, which is made from the fruit of the vangueria infausta tree. This was the first known attempt to develop a cider from the fruit of this tree for commercial sale.
