Programme: Sefa Wholesale Lending Products-Microfinance Intermediaries (MFI)

Programme Description

The MFI is provided with facilities to on lend up to R50 000 to micro and survivalist businesses. However, in special circumstances based on proper credit vetting and investment policy procedures the amount can be up to R100 000 per single business or owner


Target Market

Microfinance Intermediaries that are BBBEE compliant, and have a minimum of 2 years in operation


Application Process

Interested people must contact any of the offices.


Application Conditions

Key personnel – (e.g. senior and executive management) must have the relevant investment and development finance credentials and no less than 5 years proven working experience as SMME investment analysts and / or microfinance specialist

Loan methodology including policies and systems to be able to assess, disburse, monitor and collect on loans must be in place

A 5-10% own contribution as percentage of loan amount or capital commitment may be required.


Success Stories

 i.            Mr Mqwathi, owner of SSS Security Services which operates in the security services industry, received a R1.8million loan from Retmil, a sefa funded financial institution in 2009. He has since paid back the loan and has benefitted from several additional loans, which he has also managed to service. His company now employs 1500 full time employees, up from 100 employees. He also managed to buy out his former business partner, making the venture a 100% black owned organisation, which operates in the Free State and North West provinces.

ii.            Vhuyiswa Bheyi is an entrepreneur who is based in Cape Town. She received several loans from Tetla Development Services, which is a sefa funded Micro Finance Intermediary (MFI) to fund her business where she sells fruit and vegetables. She has repaid all the loans and her business is expanding.
