Programme Description
 
The Journalism and Media Accelerator (JAMLAB) will be a home for innovators that can develop new forms of journalism that can also reach new, especially younger, audiences. JAMLAB will provide teams with the tools, facilities, contacts and support necessary to realise their ideas and ambitions combining professional mentorship with a collaborative and creative tech-advanced working space. JAMLAB is a six-month hothouse accelerator programme for journalism and media innovators. It will provide teams with the tools, facilities, contacts, and support necessary to realise their ideas and ambitions. The 2017 programme will run at the new Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct in Braamfontein, Johannesburg from July until December.
 
 

Target Market
  • Innovators with a great idea and the commitment to create and sustain a new journalism or media venture.
  • Innovators who lead an existing journalism or media venture that they want to grow and develop. 
  • The programme is based on a significant amount of face-to-face interaction so applicants must be able to be Johannesburg-based for the period of the Fellowship.

  • The deadline for applications is 17:00 (South African Time), Friday, 9 June 2017.
  • A workshop for applicants will be held on 5th June 2017.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited to pitch on 19th June. The selected fellows will be notified of their selection by 21st June and will need to confirm their availability to participate in the programme by 26th June.
