Programme: Identity Development Fund

Programme Description

In this programme, debt, equity and quasi-equity for 4 to 5 years is available to applicants. The funding will be tailored to meet particular needs as the case may be.

Amounts available vary according to ownership structures as follows:

Black male owned (51%) businesses – from R250,000 up to R3million;
Black women owned (51%) businesses – from R30,000 up to R5million;
White women owned (51%) businesses – from R30,000 up to R2million.
 
Other business support services are available even post the investment period
 

Target Market

The following with at least a 6 month operational track record:
  • Black owned entities
  • Women owned entities
  • Youth owned entities
 

Application Process

Applicants must complete a pre-screening application form that is available online.
If the applicant meets all the requirements, they are required to complete a detailed application form, which will be followed by a first screening stage. This will involve a lot of interaction between the applicant and the IDF Managers. Following this, a due diligence exercise will be conducted with the second screening being carried out after this.


Success Stories
  1. Khotso Bofelo, a trained optician and founder of Cape Town based Fellows Optical (2004) which manufactures lenses and frames, received assistance from IDF Managers and is looking forward to expanding his business to the rest of Africa.
  2. Kasty GamingZone is a township based digital based container café franchise business which was founded in 2006 by Musa Maphongwane and Amos Mtsolongo. They are enjoying success and growth after receiving funding, mentorship and training from IDF Managers. They have doubled their employees from 10 to 20, and have set a target to establish 100 franchises within the next three years.
  3.  Xolile Ntshingila, founder of W. Genesis CC, which took ownership of Daveyton Service Station in 2012, received funding which is being used to purchase the service station and for infrastructure upgrades. She appreciated IDF Managers’ focus on supporting women entreoreneurs.
