Programme Description
The City of Johannesburg in collaboration with Standard Bank has a R250mil fund open to small business contractors of the City of Johannesburg.
The Working Capital Fund’s objective is to contribute to socio-economic development within the city of Johannesburg.
Funds invested by the Working Capital Fund in business that are successful in their application may be used for asset acquisition or working capital.
In addition, successful applicants will receive business development support services including technical, financial and business support, including assistance with meeting the entity’s obligations as outlined in the contact with the City of Johannesburg.

Applications for potential beneficiaries to be considered will be done through the Business Development Suppliers (BDS).

Target Market
- The SMME must be based and operating in the City of Johannesburg
- The entity must be registered and legally compliant
- The SMME must be focusing on one of the following sectors:
- Information and Communication Technology
- Manufacturing
- Retail
- Health
- Transport
- Property / Construction
- Green Infrastructure
- Sustainable Projects
- The entity must meet the definition of a small enterprise
- The enterprise must have a valid contract or purchase with COJ and / or any of COJ municipal owned entities in order to qualify for financing
- There should be a significant potential for growth (in sales, profits, and shareholder value) based on clear strategy and scalable business model
- The entity must be in good standing with the City of Johannesburg (rates, taxes, utilities) as well as SARS
- Management team should have a good track record within their chosen industry and / or in bringing new products to market
